Carlos Roles-Shanahan is the co-founder and director of Duo/, an innovation studio that designs and builds ethical real estate ventures and partnerships for social benefit. Duo’s multicontextual approach explores how “norms” and “forms” shape the world we create together. This vision has produced projects like Starling, an award-winning building in North Lawndale; Homekeep, reimagining the landlord-tenant model; and In.Field, a toolkit for joyful community engagement. Carlos brings lived expertise as an immigrant and experience as a Deloitte consultant, University of Michigan researcher, and CPS teacher. He holds degrees from Michigan, Loyola Chicago, and Harper College.
